Quartu, bike races are back in the Velodrome

The revival of the Quartu Velodrome begins to take shape after more than ten years of neglect .

The last step is the recent green light in Giunta for the executive project that redesigns the circuit for bike racing on the track. And it speeds up the process for the reopening of the sports facility in via San Francesco to two-wheeled athletes.

“The tender will start by the end of the year, and in the first months of 2023 there will be work to restore the Velodrome”, announces the councilor for public works Antonio Conti.

The last stumbling block was overcome a few weeks ago with the additional resources - necessary following the rise in procurement costs - found in the budget: just over 100 thousand euros which are added to the 950 thousand already financed by the metropolitan city in the scope of the Development Pact. The priority is the rebirth of the track for bike racing. "The plant will be entirely dedicated to cycling", reiterates the commissioner. “Initially it was also thought of creating a football field in the center, but the ideal is to give space to a single discipline. Also because the other sports will be hosted again in Sa Forada, right next to the Velodrome ”.
