The landing of Germeas in recent days confirms the new route to Sardinia for those seeking to leave North Africa. A few months ago other non-EU citizens landed in Villasimius. Overall on the south-eastern coasts, from Villasimius and Geremeas, over fifty have arrived with the dream of finding a better life in these parts and above all of reaching other parts of Europe.

A reality that confirms the events of the past when the coasts of Sarrabus and in particular of Muravera and the coast that today is called Torre delle Stelle became the site of landings of Moors and Saracens.

Today's stories are different from those. The 24 who arrived in Geremeas last Thursday are now in quarantine at the first reception center in Monastir.

Unfortunately, journeys of hope do not always have a happy ending. A few years ago the bodies of two African girls who died during the sea crossing arrived in Sinnai. The bodies remained for months in the new Sinnai cemetery in the hope of a recognition that never came. Now they rest there and every now and then someone drops a flower as a sign of affection, so as not to forget.
