The former president of the Generalitat, Carles Puigdemont, left Sardinia this morning to reach Brussels where he is awaited by a commitment to the European Parliament.

Puigdemont left in the early hours of the morning from Alghero airport, where he was arrested last Thursday night by the border police, as soon as he landed in Fertilia, by virtue of a contested European arrest warrant issued by the Spanish judicial authority. He is accused of sedition and embezzlement of public funds.

Puigdemont, released by the Sassari Court of Appeal the day after his arrest, will appear before the same Court on Monday 4 October, when the Italian judges will rule on the extradition request sent by Madrid. "He is in Brussels and will return to Sardinia on Sunday," confirmed his lawyer in a message.

After the crowds of recent days, first in Alghero and then in Oristano, the Catalan MEP, flanked by his lawyers, the Spanish Gonzalo Boye, and the Sassari Agostinangelo Marras, assured that on October 4 he will be present in the courtroom: " Yes, I will return to Sardinia ”, he said, answering questions from journalists who were waiting for him before the International Trade Commission of the European Parliament in Brussels.

For his part, no complaints but rather full confidence in Italian justice.
