The print of the largest woodcut in the world by the artist Giovanni Dettori has been placed in the Palazzo del Marchese, the new institutional headquarters of the Municipality of Porto Torres. It depicts the Passio dei Martiri turritani, the patron saints Gavino, Proto and Gianuario, symbols of the history of turritani represented in a work that will be officially inaugurated at the end of January.

A unique work both for its considerable size (3.60 metres x 2.50) and for the fact that it was created by several people, by Giovanni Dettori together with some of his seven students from the engraving techniques course at the “M. Sironi” Academy of Fine Arts.

Dettori chose to donate the print of his masterpiece to the Municipality and therefore to the entire Turritan community. The artist had created the work by welcoming the idea of the administration to create an engraving that recalled the Passio dei Martiri, given the coincidence of the opening of his new laboratory - in October 2023 - with the days dedicated to the commemoration of the martyrdom that occurred in Turris Libisonis in 303 AD. Dettori and his students therefore worked with passion to give life to a work that evokes humanity, faith and spirit of identity.
