A sudden boom shook the Sant'Agostino neighborhood of Alghero around 7:30 PM. An explosion occurred inside a home on Via Porrino, likely caused by a gas leak while a young worker was busy installing a gas cylinder.
The boy suffered minor burns and was treated by emergency personnel, who transported him by ambulance to the emergency room at Alghero Hospital. His condition is not serious. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported.
Firefighters responded to the scene to secure the home, along with officers from the police station. Local police assisted with traffic management.
According to an initial reconstruction, which is still being verified, gas had accumulated in the area and a spark was enough to trigger the explosion. The roar was heard throughout the working-class neighborhood, causing moments of great apprehension. Numerous residents rushed into the streets to understand what had happened.
This isn't the first time Via Porrino has been the scene of a similar incident. In 2023, on the same street, a gas cylinder was hurled like a torpedo from a balcony following a small fire on a terrace. A precedent that residents recall after this evening's scare.
