Exposed to the Public Prosecutor's Office of Sassari on the matter of the three dead cats poisoned and found in Porto Torres.

The facts date back to 18 December last when the animals were found by one of the residents, abandoned in the straw of the wooden nativity scene set up in front of the basilica of San Gavino. The case is reported by the Italian Association for the Protection of Animals and the Environment, which condemns the act which would put the lives of other cats at risk.

«Our complaint - they explain - has the aim of starting serious investigations to discover the authors of this shameful act before more cats are poisoned. This is why it is important to find out who the authors of this cowardly and criminal act are and punish them severely."

For the president of the Anime Feline association, Elisabetta Fanari: « Probably someone administered rat poison», she claims, «the cats, in fact, had no wounds on their bodies, but it is still difficult to trace the causes of death, because at the moment when the local police officers showed up on site, after the report, the animals had already been removed by unknown persons. Therefore it is not possible to carry out an autopsy."

The voluntary association, which recently stipulated a three-year agreement with the Municipality of Porto Torres, explains that the San Gavino cat colony, founded eight years ago and made up of around 20 cats, is authorized and managed by Toto Caffiero and Maria Lucia Mundula, who take care of the animals, well-liked and welcomed by the inhabitants of the area.
