“Porto Torres Marittima”, ticket offices and waiting rooms closed: ghost train station
Few convoys and commuters are often forced to travel on old vehiclesOnce upon a time there was, and there still is, a railway station known as "Porto Torres Marittima", reopened and inaugurated in 2016, but which currently does not have any ticket office or even a waiting space available for passengers. Public services don't work, talking about electronic scoreboards would be a gamble, and there is no trace of the information office. The waiting room is always closed and for the train ticket you need to contact the newsagent in Piazza Colombo who can offer services where they are often lacking.
A sort of ghost train station with few trains and commuters often forced to travel on trains that are now old and degraded. The cessation of rail freight service in Sardinia starting from 2008 led to further dismantling of tracks at the Porto Torres Marittima plant, opened to replace the port of the same name on the branch to the port, deactivated on the occasion. It is part of the intermodal hub, inaugurated last June, an efficient connection between trains, ships, buses and shuttles in the port area. For commuting students it certainly does not represent a convenience nor for disabled people who, in some cases, have found themselves facing architectural barriers and inconveniences, nightmare journeys especially when the destinations are far away.
The station is served by Trenitalia regional trains which connect it with Sassari, Ploaghe, Chilivani and with the centers located south of the latter station along the Sardinian Dorsale.
