An operation with a financial framework of 17 million and 100 thousand euros to renovate the public housing units owned by Area, present in the municipal territory of Porto Torres. A total of 958 apartments distributed between the Villaggio Verde, Villaggio Satellite and other urban areas of the city, buildings that present significant structural criticalities. «From this extraordinary plan, funds amounting to 6 and a half million euros are immediately available, an immediate response to the absolute emergency present in Porto Torres». Numbers illustrated by the regional councilor for Public Works, Antonio Piu, who spoke during the inspection at the former Anteas headquarters, in the Villaggio Satellite where, in the presence of Senator Ettore Licheri together with the M5s group from Porto Torres, of the mayor Massimo Mulas accompanied by the councilor for the Environment Massimiliano Ledda, of the Area service manager Roberto Ginesu and of the Area Technical Office manager, Andrea Pinna, the delivery of the thousand signatures of the residents who have long been asking for interventions of decorum and maintenance of the Area properties took place.

The promoters of the initiative are the 5 Star Movement, with spokesperson Loredana de Marco who has collected complaints and support from citizens. The problems that emerged during the walk through the streets of the Satellite neighborhood highlighted the deteriorated terraces and pillars with exposed rusty iron on many homes, as well as clogged drains and dilapidated sidewalks. The available resources are the result of the “RinnovArea” framework agreement with which the regional department of Public Works launched the European open tender to renovate public housing throughout Sardinia, with resources of 300 million euros for the entire island. And Porto Torres is part of the Sassari district, one of the five macro-areas that also include Cagliari, Carbonia, Nuoro, Oristano.

"There is the problem of the work to be done in mixed condominiums, that is, where there are apartments purchased by private individuals and those still available to Area," explains Piu, "and for this reason it is necessary to create a control room between Area, the Region and the Municipality to call together the owners who have purchased the public housing, to understand how they can participate in the implementation of the interventions. We need their authorization to intervene with the renovations, otherwise we will not be able to do it. Sales in mixed condominiums will be encouraged, while we will try to maintain Area's ownership in the buildings where all the apartments are still owned by the Regional Agency." Of the 68 public housing buildings, Area has immediate availability of 22 homes on which interventions are already being carried out, while the others are of mixed ownership. Another step by the Department of Public Works, to guarantee the decorum of the city in the neighborhoods, will be the agreement with Forestas to arrange the green areas of the public housing. For Mayor Massimo Mulas, "the positive side of this meeting is that Councilor Piu has worked since he took office, intervening immediately to channel and bind important resources to a national priority: producing planning and interventions on the popular housing heritage." Senator Ettore Licheri highlighted the need to listen to residents: "This is a signal that traces new ways of interpreting politics, or the direct relationship with active citizens for an open discussion."

The safety works will start next year, respecting a timetable that includes the design and renovation of the buildings, according to the criterion of priority of the most critical conditions to the less burdensome ones, to continue with the arrangement of the green areas.
