A life full of obstacles, from illness to housing, on the first floor of a building in the center of Porto Torres.

Claudia Delogu, 37, has an uphill battle. For eight years, she has suffered from degenerative neuropathy, a condition that affects the nervous system and causes gait problems.

She's been waiting for a ground-floor apartment for years. She benefits from support laws, and her husband helps her out when she feels the need to leave the house during his free time. Claudia, on the other hand, had to give up her job in 2017, when she discovered her illness, which currently causes her enormous difficulty walking.

She uses a crutch and a walker, but has fallen several times, breaking her legs. "Finding a ground-floor apartment was a challenge, but I believe that in my condition, with a full disability, having a home that meets my needs is a right," says Claudia. "I discovered my disability in 2017, as soon as I got married. Back then, I was a shop assistant, living a normal life, but then my life changed," she says.

"The disease causes pain in my legs, and I'm afraid that sooner or later I'll end up in a wheelchair," Claudia continues . "Social Services advised me to apply for public housing," she says, "but I'm willing to pay rent, as I always have, as long as there's someone willing to listen to my plea."
