To contain the catch, the disposable polystyrene boxes from the fishing boats of Porto Torres are banned.

The styrene polymer is one of the major pollutants of the sea (and not only), of which unfortunately there are often evident traces also in the port of Turriano and in the Gulf of Asinara. For some time, however, in several boats the polystyrene boxes have already been replaced with special reusable hard plastic boxes.

Definitely a solution with a lower environmental impact and an important step to keep the sea cleaner. The awareness-raising work and this innovative idea in the Turrian port started from the North Sardinia Flag, which has always been committed to finding solutions in favor of fishing and respect for the sea.

"These new plastic crates are also recyclable and equipped with a microchip that identifies their belonging - explains Benedetto Sechi, president of Flag North Sardinia -. Disposable plastic and polystyrene crates within the year, once the stocks are disposed of, will not be able to more to be reused. The Flag has therefore promoted this experimentation, which would cancel the use of polystyrene. Several fishermen have adapted but the collaboration of the entire supply chain is necessary: fishermen, aquaculturists, wholesalers and retailers. The packaging we offer - he concludes - it is intended for circular use: from the fisherman to the retailers, who return the vacuum directly to the original fisherman ".
