Will soon be able to enjoy a new home, the large family of cats that received the eviction from the Porto Torres fish market.

The colony of about 85 felines awaits the formalization of the transfer of an area, owned by the provincial industrial consortium, a land with a surface area of about one thousand meters, identified in via Pigafetta, which will be transferred on free loan for five years , renewable for a further five, so as to be able to set it up with all the comforts for the cats managed by the "Amici di Maya" association, a group of eight voluntary members who have been looking after the felines for some time, guaranteeing them food and care. And so among the productive activities of the artisan sector of the industrial area, the new tenants will have the opportunity to take advantage of new spaces to be organized with suitable shelters and structures necessary to satisfy the needs of such a large colony.

"A bare land that needs to be worked, fenced off and set up," explains Giancarlo Ascione, president of the Amici di Maya association. "An investment of around 200,000 euros that we have to deal with at our own expense or by making use of other external funds".

The volunteers hope to finalize the contract in the coming days. An agreement facilitated by the Municipal Environment Commission, chaired by Gianpiero Madeddu.

The colony of cats that had been exploiting the former fish market for some time was forced to abandon the building following the assignment of the structure's redevelopment works by the Port System Authority.
