«New pollution alarm, disappearing jobs, poisonous landfills and now also concession of space for wind and photovoltaic invasion: the time has come to put an end to it, we deserve a better future made up of reclamation, development and tourism». This is the thought of the citizens of Portoscuso who are tired of seeing the land in which they were born at the mercy of those who, for decades, have been using this area as a land of conquest, leaving landfills and rubble behind.

«Our land has so much to offer its people – says Mauro Stocchino, a trader whose shop is a stone's throw from the seafront where the first tourists are arriving – let's think of our wonderful beaches, the ancient art of tuna fishing and the thousand attractions in the area that can be exploited for tourism. In the past the role of reviving the fortunes of this land was delegated to industry and the thousands of jobs it has created are indisputable, but now what is left for us?

«Even today, many aspects of the offshore wind project are not clear – adds Federico Cau – What are the advantages for jobs and local development? Does the distance of 35 kilometers from the coast safeguard tuna fishing and small-scale fishing which represent our history and our roots? For all these reasons and not having yet learned whether there are at least some advantages for the population, we can only be against it."
