"In Cagliari, operating rooms and emergency rooms at risk of implosion." This is what we read in a note issued by Gianfranco Angioni, head of Usb Sanità Sardegna.
"A few days after the start of the first PNRR works, which include the construction of two new operating rooms at the PO Businco and the renovation of the existing rooms A and B - writes the union - we learn by reading some resolutions on the official website of ARNAS G. Brotzu, that another PNRR financing of approximately 9 million euros, concerning the PO San Michele "Emergency Room - Structural, plant and technological adaptation to anti-contagion provisions ", has reached the approval phase of the executive project. At this point - continues Angioni - we wonder what date has been identified for the works that will affect the emergency room and what measures have been put in place for the possible prohibition of healthcare activities".
"An avalanche of money is pouring into Brotzu - continues the union note - with the real danger that someone's interests may prevail over the needs of operators and patients. Furthermore, we are not comfortable enough with the health and organizational management that will have to be implemented in an already complicated enough moment for the nationally important and highly specialized company G. Brotzu. With the multiple problems in the departments, undersized and with now chronic staff shortages, we have witnessed in recent years a filling of the PO San Michele which today no longer has any free department useful for hosting the departments affected by the works".
Again, the union reports that "the PO San Michele is filled to the brim", the lack of "buffer wards" and "wards suitable for hosting other operating rooms or intensive care units".
«And while the PO San Michele has problems of "too full", the PO Businco has the opposite problem: entire departments remain empty and unused while the operating block of wing B on the second floor has been waiting for redevelopment for years. Restructuring that could have been taken into consideration to limit the inconvenience and emptying of the regional Oncology center».
"And in this dark picture - concludes Angioni - the million-dollar PNRR works are about to begin all together with overlaps that raise concerns among health workers and all the staff of ARNAS G. Brotzu, but more generally what appears most critical is the entire emergency area of Southern Sardinia, already struggling for the transfer of the Resuscitation to the former TIPO of Cardiac Surgery which has had to face a significant reduction in the number of beds".
For this reason, "without the immediate measures requested - warns the union - in addition to the employees' will to resign remaining firm, we will find ourselves forced to implement every initiative of struggle , none excluded".
