Little Pompeo's fate was already sealed. At just one year old, the slaughterhouse doors were about to open for the donkey. When it seemed that everything was already written, however, things changed: a group of citizens of Pimentel decided to rescue him from that sad fate. The residents paid to keep him and brought him to the village where he now lives happily in the countryside on the property of one of them.

«Pompeo was on a farm in a town near here - say two of the residents, Nenne Piras and Mariano Schirru - when we saw him he immediately made us tender. However, they told us that since it was a male they had to slaughter it, while instead they keep the females alive." The news «that for him who had just turned one year old there was this sad fate, moved us very much. So we asked if we could take him with us."

And now Pompeo, in perfect health, has become Pimentel's mascot. The residents have divided the tasks: there are those who feed him, those who take him for a walk in the countryside and those who are already competing to take a selfie. "More and more people are asking us to join us to help in the maintenance of the donkey - say the two residents - just in recent days two others have joined the group".
