Four hectares of vegetation, including fields and scrub, were reduced to ashes following a fire that broke out this afternoon in the San Lorenzo area of Iglesias .

The flames were put out by the agents of the Iglesias Forestry Corps, who coordinated the extinguishing operations, supported by the Forestas and civil protection teams of Iglesias and Villamassargia, and the firefighters of the Iglesias detachment, who intervened to protect the homes.

A helicopter was also requested, and it arrived quickly from the nearby Marganai base . Fortunately, the flames were quickly contained and extinguished before they spread to several businesses and homes in the area . Forestry investigators were on site and have begun an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.

The one in Iglesias is the only intervention by an aircraft today in Sardinia, on a Sunday when six fires were recorded across the island .
