A heart as big as this, a face carved from a chestnut beam, the good hands of a craftsman . Walnut briar pipes, family tradition elevated to classy objects. Giorgio Micheli is no more. Betrayed at 96 by the illness that accompanied him. He was the leader of the Salesian oratory, the inventor of clay pigeon shooting in Lanusei, president of the Pro Loco for forty years, inventor of the Cherry Fair, a legendary hunter, battering ram, and leader of the Amici del Cuore association. Six children, many grandchildren scattered across Italy, the love for Tonina born in the Cathedral square and carved in granite with a 75-year marriage. Micheli lived a century of his Lanusei, shaping the town with good ideas and hard work. He leaves a void far greater than the great man he was.

Mayor Davide Burchi speaks on behalf of the entire community. "Giorgio was an indomitable fighter, with the grit of someone who always fought against life, never surrendered it. His long-standing heart condition gave him new insight and even greater energy in his defense of healthcare."

Raffaele Sestu, a physician and regional president of the Pro Loco, was moved : "A great man has passed away. In 2000, we awarded him the plaque for the longest-serving president of the Pro Loco, a record I believe still stands. A great craftsman, the last of the greats."

Carlo Balloi, a cardiologist, recalls his frontline commitment to defending healthcare and the opening of the cath lab . "He and his friends from the Amici del Cuore association have always been at the forefront of the battles for the hospital. With their fundamental contribution, we opened the Coronary Care Unit in 2008. Giorgio Micheli, when needed, raised his voice, always standing up for the most vulnerable." Those in high places have been warned: a man of upright character is coming.
