For the death of Pietro Mastino , the 55-year-old carabiniere who was the victim of a road accident last Sunday, along the provincial road 19, between Alghero and Olmedo , the Public Prosecutor's Office has appointed Dr. Daniela Casu, a specialist in forensic medicine, as technical consultant for the examination of the body which will be carried out tomorrow morning at 11. The carabiniere's family will be assisted by the lawyer Stefano Carboni.
Pietro Mastino died from the very serious injuries he suffered in the head-on collision between his Seat Ibiza and a Fiat Panda that had invaded the lane , driven by a 34-year-old resident of Olmedo, who later tested positive for drugs and alcohol. The video surveillance cameras located a short distance from the site of the impact would have captured the passage of the Fiat Panda at high speed and that the driver would have lost control of the car at a bend, ending up invading the opposite lane. The man , who is still hospitalized, undergoing emergency therapy for lung injuries and multiple fractures , must answer for road homicide and in the next few hours his lawyer, Luca Barrocu, will act as his representative in the interrogation.
The funeral for Mastino is scheduled for Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in the church of San Cristoforo, in Montresta, the soldier's hometown. Tomorrow afternoon, instead, the funeral chapel will be at the hospital in Sassari.
