A prison officer was attacked today in the Bancali prison. During an intervention by officers to restrain an aggressive inmate, the inmate grabbed an officer's neck, nearly strangling him.

Colleagues managed to subdue the attacker and prevent a worsening outcome. During the struggle, the officer suffered facial injuries and bruises. Roberto Melis, national secretary of ConSiPe, reported the incident.

"We can't continue to talk about safety only after incidents of this gravity have occurred," he declares. "We need to intervene earlier, ensuring personnel have adequate tools, organization, and operating conditions that allow them to face dangerous situations without being left alone."

The union is calling for concrete measures. "We can't wait for someone to die before realizing the problem has become unsustainable," Melis says.
