Pierpaolo Marullo will be the new commander of the local police of Cagliari.

There is still no official confirmation but, barring any last-minute unforeseen events, the announcement on the assignment of the role should arrive today from Mayor Massimo Zedda.

Since 2010, Marullo, 60, has been the head of the inter-municipal police force of Riccione and will succeed the director Giambattista Marotto, who led the force after the transfer of the previous commander Guido Calzia.

The new commander was chosen from a shortlist of six names that included commanders of various local police forces from some towns in Sardinia.
