In recent days, the story of the missing skate, which began last Monday, has held the stage among the bathers on the beach. The northwest wind blew with gusts that reached 100 kilometers per hour. One had thrown a life jacket into the water, which immediately began its run towards the open sea.
Despite the prohibitive conditions of the sea, the lifeguard who was on duty at the time decided to recover it. He started rowing aboard the skate. But the mistral was too strong: in a few minutes it disappeared from sight and someone called for help.
The lifeguard in distress was recovered by a Coast Guard patrol boat, which also brought the skate back to shore, then moored to a buoy. Only the storm was too strong, or the knot too loose. And the vessel took off, out of control.
For days it was not known what happened to him. An appeal had also been launched. He reappeared kilometers away: he had traveled in a southeasterly direction, as far as Villasimius. The skate also came home. Intact.
