Paolo Truzzu has submitted his resignation from the position of mayor of Cagliari.

A handwritten communication, addressed to the City Council and the general secretary of the capital's administration for a decision that the mayor defines as having "immediate and irrevocable" effects.

Here, therefore, ends the era of the Cagliari government that began in June 2019, when Truzzu defeated the challenger Francesca Ghirra, led by the Progressives and the entire center-left.

There was Covid, there were numerous open construction sites, the controversies and the electoral defeat in the race for the presidency of the Region, which was affected by the negative vote of the people of Cagliari towards the mayor.

Now Truzzu has made the choice to go to the Regional Council, where he will sit in opposition to Alessandra Todde's government for the next five years. Provided that the legislature expires naturally.

In the meantime, in the Municipality, the canonical 20 days allowed for a possible rethinking will have to pass, then the appointment of a commissioner will arrive, who will ferry Cagliari until the next administrative elections, scheduled for June.
