There are 3,033 migrants hosted in reception centers in Sardinia: 2,755 are housed in facilities managed by the Prefectures and 278 in the SAI centers, managed by local authorities (municipalities), which offer personalized programs for asylum seekers and holders of international protection.

The numbers are reported in the latest report published by the Ministry of the Interior, updated until December 31, 2025.

The number of migrants arriving on the island is up compared to a year ago, when the total number of migrants in the region was 2,334. At the end of 2023, the number was 2,784, compared to just 1,539 on December 31, 2022, when the Meloni government had been in office for just over a month and a half.

The island is in line with the national (increasing) trend: according to the latest survey, there are 142,233 migrants in centers throughout Italy. At the end of 2022, there were 107,268.

To address the direct landings on the Sulcis coast and to facilitate transfers between facilities, the Prefecture of Cagliari has issued a call for proposals: €67,235 has been allocated for bus rental for six months.
