Undeclared currency for 434,000 euros , 220 reports for environmental protection , 25 seizures of drugs , 96 seizures relating to counterfeiting : these are just some of the numbers of the work of the Customs and Monopolies Agency (ADM) for 2022 at Cagliari airports -Elmas, Olbia and Alghero .

A record year for the number of passengers transiting through the island's airports, with over 8 million people choosing Sardinia as a tourist destination in the summer months.

With the help of the soldiers of the Guardia di Finanza and the "cash dogs" in service in the three airports of the island, the ADM officials discovered in 2022 undeclared currency for 434,000 euros, in the possession of EU and non-EU citizens, who took advantage of the institution of oblation. In particular , 29 violations of the currency regulations were contested , with the simultaneous payment of administrative fines for over 14 thousand euros .

The results achieved in the fight against counterfeiting are also good : 96 seizures in total and over 400 items including international and EU brands of well-known fashion houses.

Among the drug control and seizure activities, a Nigerian citizen who was carrying over 1 kg of heroin contained in 76 ova and an Italian citizen from Barcelona who had hidden over 1 kg of drugs between cocaine and hashish in his hold luggage were arrested.

ADM's activity was also significant in the context of the "Take it to your heart" communication campaign, implemented with the Sardinia Region during the 2022 summer season and aimed at making travelers aware of the issue of respect for the environment and the marine ecosystem also informing about the heavy penalties foreseen for those who remove sand, shells and pebbles from the coasts.
