He had dumped a pile of waste on a closed road, then set it on fire in an attempt to eliminate any trace that could lead back to him, and left while the flames raged . Only that fire, last summer, had started a large fire. And now the person responsible, a 52-year-old fisherman from Oristano, is being investigated for arson.

The facts date back to last summer. The flames had broken out in the area of the industrial port of Oristano: they had grazed high-traffic roads, such as the Provincial 97 and other consortium communication routes serving the port area of Santa Giusta, and had also affected some humid areas of the Special Conservation Area of Cirras.

Only the timely intervention of the regional fire brigade, with the help of an aircraft, had made it possible to avoid the worst, despite the serious damage to the vegetation and the danger to road traffic.

The fifty-two-year-old was identified thanks to the scrupulous investigative activity started by the personnel of the Forestry Corps and Environmental Supervision of the Marrubiu Station and the Investigative Unit (Nipaf) of the Oristano Inspectorate: he is also accused of illegal waste disposal. And it is not the first time: in the past he had already been reported for the same crime.
