Oristano: four Ascots for the 2,700 children in the province without a pediatrician

There is good news for children in the province of Oristano who have been without healthcare for some time due to the lack of doctors, around 2700. It will start with four extraordinary clinics, in Oristano, in Santu Lussurgiu, in Ales and also in Mogoro , the experimental project entitled "Surgeries to support local paediatrics", approved by the management of the Oristano Local Health Authority and proposed by the director of socio-health services Alessandro Baccoli and the head of the Territorial Hospital Integration office Marilena Muggianu.

An Ascot therefore also for children. This is a first response to the mothers, also gathered in the Facebook group "SOS pediatricians Oristano and province 2024", who last March 28 showed up at the ASL offices to deliver a dossier with all the testimonies of families with children suffering from serious pathologies and without the assistance of a pediatrician. The project will initially last 3 months. The project, as stated in the ASL resolution, was instituted given the health situation «characterised by a condition of extreme urgency, a situation which requires urgent and non-deferrable interventions , aimed at guaranteeing the essential and unavoidable levels of pediatric assistance, in particular for children with major disabilities, who represent the weakest category of the social structure".

Medical managers from the complex pediatric structure of the San Martino hospital in Oristano and from the district clinics will operate in the clinics. The pediatric Ascot doctors will be able to carry out outpatient and home visits, prescribe tests or diagnostic procedures, therapeutic plans, certifications required by the contract and growth checks, for a maximum of 35 hours per week. But not only. The many families in the province are waiting to know the outcome of the tender for the lacking seats of free choice paediatrics : «The tender for the coverage of the vacant seats of free choice paediatrics in Sardinia is managed directly by Ares Sardegna - they let it be known from the ASL - In these days it will verify the admissibility of the requests arriving from all over the island and draw up the ranking. In the next few days we will be informed of the outcome of the selection procedure and the possible coverage of the lacking offices in the territory of ASL 5 of Oristano".
