The operation to empty the Badu 'e Carros prison in Nuoro has begun, ordered by the Ministry of Justice due to serious structural problems, particularly the perimeter wall. Prisoner transfers are already massive and are affecting both general and high-security inmates, with severe repercussions on the Sardinian prison system, already plagued by overcrowding in the Uta and Bancali prisons.

However, new shadows are gathering over the institution's true prospects. The bishop of Nuoro has raised public alarm, raising the possibility that, after renovation, the prison could be used only to house inmates subject to the 41 bis regime, effectively transforming the city into a "large high-security enclave."

This prospect has been described as "a blow to Nuoro and the region," which risks erasing years of volunteer work, inclusion, and attention to the rehabilitative function of prison sentences. Meanwhile, the Ministry's silence remains, along with concerns from family members and lawyers, often informed of transfers only at the last minute, while the future of Badu 'e Carros continues to raise questions.
