The Coast Guard of Olbia seized approximately 300 kilos of "irregular" swordfish (it was under the minimum size) and 17 large live specimens of spider crab , found inside a refrigerated truck.

It was discovered at the port , where the military , under the coordination of the 15th CCAP (the Fishing Area Control Center) of the Maritime Directorate of Olbia, inspected numerous refrigerated trucks that were leaving for the Peninsula.

During the checks, 36 specimens of swordfish, torn and gutted, and 17 specimens of spider crab without any accompanying document or labeling relating to their tracking and traceability were found inside a vehicle.

31 of the 36 swordfish, however, were under the minimum size required by the community standard of 100 cm, measured from the lower jaw to the fork and without suitable traceability documentation that could demonstrate their origin.

The violators were sanctioned with two administrative reports for a total of 27 thousand euros.

After the seizure , the spider crabs were put back into the sea, still alive , in the waters of the Marine Protected Area of Tavolara - Punta Coda Cavallo, on a seabed of 50 meters, by the Olbia Coast Guard, while the swordfish, after being declared suitable for human consumption by the Olbia Local Health Authority, it was donated to charity.
