Olbia is a candidate for Green Leaf City 2026. Mayor Settimo Nizzi announced it today, on the occasion of the awareness campaign and the "Only One" conference organized by Direzione Marittima and Marevivo. «The European Commission has established the European Green Leaf Award to reward cities with fewer than 100,000 inhabitants that demonstrate an aptitude and willingness to transition towards a more sustainable future – explained Nizzi – The data relating to the quality of the air, water management, biodiversity and land use, waste management, noise, mitigation measures and adaptation to climate change, accompanied by the best actions taken by the administration. Thanks to the support of Abbanoa, Aspo, the Port System Authority, Cipnes Gallura, Geasar, the Province of Sassari, and all the municipal offices, it was possible to prepare the application: 112 pages full of data and started, completed and future projects" .

Seven projects were considered good practices in the name of sustainability Città 30 Km/h, Biciplan and Pediplan, urban forestation with the "Green Mosaic" project, the biodigester designed by Cipnes, the practices for preventing the spread of alien species, the new cycle path with photovoltaic coverage, cold ironing (electrification) of the port. «We have already obtained an initial validation, obtaining applicant status – said Nizzi, underlining how it was not at all a given that the application would be accepted -. Now 7 international experts will express a score that will determine access to the final, which will be held in Valencia in October. Up for grabs is a prize of 200,000 euros to support actions to improve environmental sustainability." Regardless of the final outcome, the mayor commented, the data and their processing have led to very important results and will in any case be used for projects in which the priority remains the well-being and health of citizens: only by improving sustainability is this possible".
