Cagliari's new bike lanes are causing controversy: "Parking is being taken away and roads are being narrowed."

Via Giotto, Via Cornalias, Via Aldo Marongiu. These are just some of the streets in Cagliari where, in the last few weeks, they have appeared: road curbs. First, changes to the road markings, then the concrete blocks, which have narrowed the lanes, eliminated parking, and created confusion among drivers and discontent among business owners.

Residents complain about unclear signage and safety issues. On Via Cornalias, for example, where there were once two lanes, the roadway is now narrower, forcing cars to cross, with no clear direction of travel. The result is confusion and slow traffic, especially near intersections.

According to Virgilio Scanu, president of the Cagliari branch of FIAB, the curbs have been correctly positioned. What's missing, however, is a system of cycle paths capable of truly connecting all the city's loops, from the center to the suburbs, all the way to the municipality of Pirri.
