The defenders Daniele Succu and Maurizio Scarparo asked the single judge of the court of Nuoro Filippo Orani for a plea deal for their client Luciano Carroni, trade unionist and former traffic policeman , accused of having provoked «through negligence, imprudence and violation of the rules against accidents at work» the death of Mario Sini , a 66-year-old worker, engaged in some undeclared renovations in his home.

The judge reserved the right to evaluate the admissibility of the request and adjourned the hearing to next February 28th. According to prosecutor Riccardo Belfiori, in April two years ago, Carroni had instructed the victim to carry out maintenance work on the flue, bricklaying and painting the facade of his home in via Gavino Lai, despite Sini being unqualified and competences and was not registered with the Chamber of Commerce.

The scaffolding used to carry out these works was not up to standard and had suddenly overturned causing the worker to fall from a height of 7 metres : a fatal flight. Carroni is accused of the crime of manslaughter: he would have violated various rules for the prevention of accidents at work by not verifying the professional suitability of the worker or if he was using adequate tools and scaffolding. The victim's wife and children filed a civil action with the lawyers Francesco Lai and Piera Pittalis.
