The visit of the Undersecretary of Health Andrea Costa has begun in Nuoro. This morning, in the town hall, he was received by the mayor Andrea Soddu, by the deputy Fabrizio Beccu and by Sebastian Cocco, president of the city council.

Together with the government exponent was the parliamentarian Mara Lapia, a member of the Social Affairs and Health Commission of the Chamber of Deputies and promoter of the visit.

"I exposed to Undersecretary Costa the shortcomings that patients and health workers have to deal with every day - said Mayor Soddu -, from the structural ones, to the endless waiting lists, up to the grueling shifts to which workers are subjected to lack of staff, as evidenced by the serious difficulties recorded in the emergency room of the San Francesco hospital, where it is not permissible for doctors to be diverted from other departments to make up for the small numbers ".

Among the critical points, which "must be remedied immediately", was noted "the lack of primary care, a deficiency which, as I have also argued on other occasions, makes the Nuoro office unattractive for newly graduated doctors who have need for a figure to guide and train them in the performance of the profession ", concluded the mayor.

On the occasion of the stop at San Francesco, Costa underlined: “I am here to listen and to seek solutions. We will do it if we can all together row in the same direction and play as a team. "

The situation exposed by the unions was that of a shortage of more than 60% of doctors and 23 primary doctors discovered in addition to the fact that the emergency room "is almost paralyzed".

During the meeting, which was also attended by the regional councilor Mario Nieddu, Costa was given a 25-page document containing exceptions and proposals from the Regions, in addition to the requests addressed to the Government on the main health issues.

Among the points highlighted, the strengthening of the training capacity of the Universities, the revision of remuneration for staff, new collective agreements and changes to the current regulatory framework.

"It is difficult at this stage to implement definitive solutions. The shortage of health personnel, doctors, sector operators and technicians is the mother of all problems, it is for the San Francesco hospital as well as for the health systems of all Regions ", declared Nieddu, adding:" To respond to needs such as those that emerged in the Nuoro garrison, we have deployed every tool at our disposal. After a long time we have banned sixty-nine competitions, some of which have been banned again at the end of the scrolling of the rankings. We have changed the bankruptcy rules and are evaluating further changes to facilitate recruitment in locations where it is most difficult to find personnel willing to fill positions. We have also launched an incentive tool never seen before in Sardinia, to which important resources have been assigned. We will continue on this path, but action at national level is also needed to change the rules, in order to have the flexibility to give immediate responses to the hospitals and wards that suffer the most. With the current rules, even just moving personnel where required encounters insurmountable obstacles, even with economic incentives. Structural solutions are needed that can only be found at national level. We believe that Undersecretary Costa's interest in Nuoro health care is a positive fact. I hope that now the undersecretary will strengthen our requests in Rome and that we can soon discuss possible paths based on the proposals we have put on the table ", concluded the exponent of the Giunta Solinas.
