He has been in prison since he was 16 years old, the first arrest dates back to February 1976. Today the man, who is over 60 years old, is serving a life sentence in Badu 'e Carros, in Nuoro. "The anxiety one feels at the mere thought of having to die in prison cannot be described," we read in a letter he sent to the Socialismo Diritti Riforme association, which disclosed the text. «I was arrested for the first time in 1976 and since then, apart from a couple of years when I escaped from the island of Pianosa, I have always been detained. It is true that I was responsible for various escapes , mostly headaches due to the anxiety of having to return to prison , but from 1987 onwards I have never committed crimes during these benefits" , writes the lifer .

«I am 63 years old and I have spent 47 years in prison. With the days of early release I reach 56 years served , that is, more than double what the penal code requires for a person sentenced to life imprisonment to be able to request early release. Currently I only see two possible paths in my future: asking for a presidential pardon or putting an end to it once and for all, because I am truly at the end of my tether", is the prisoner's bitter outburst.

«Words of hope but also of desperation that cannot leave us indifferent - says Maria Grazia Caligaris of Socialismo Diritti Riforme -. Words that make us reflect on the conditions of life inside a cell, on the weight of loneliness and an existence born crooked and on how much the principle of social rehabilitation needs more incisive tools, especially when the deviant path begins during adolescence. The loss of freedom in conditions of suffering can be an unbearable burden without appropriate support."
