After months of negotiations and technical discussions, the Region takes a decisive step towards the new territorial air continuity .
The Regional Council has approved the final plan redesigning connections between Sardinia and the mainland: more flights, lower fares for residents, and discounts extended to new categories of travelers. The decision now goes to the regional commission, and then to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport for final approval.
The final process began on August 11th with the Services Conference convened by President Alessandra Todde, attended by Transport Councillor Barbara Manca, and representatives of ENAC and the Ministry of Transport. Today's approval from the Regional Council marks the penultimate step in a process that will only be concluded with the publication of the decree in the Official Journal of the European Union.
"We are about to launch a new mobility model on the island, more equitable and more responsive to citizens' needs," said President Todde, emphasizing that the reform comes after "months of intense work."
But what changes for travelers? Among the main changes are undoubtedly more flights and more seats available from Cagliari, Olbia, and Alghero to Rome Fiumicino and Milan Linate, spread across four time slots, to allow for same-day return flights. There are also reduced fares for residents : approximately €30 to Rome and €44 to Milan, excluding taxes. Discounts have also been extended to workers and military personnel based in Sardinia, as well as to non-professional competitive athletes . Discounts are also available for non-residents with family ties up to the third degree to Sardinian citizens or those caring for disabled relatives: they will pay a 30% increase on the residents' fare. Furthermore, maximum prices will be guaranteed year-round for non-resident workers traveling for professional reasons.
Now, however, the decision is up to Rome , and only with the signature of the Minister of Infrastructure will the decree come into force and the tender procedures for assigning the services to airlines will begin.
