Traffic police conducted a flurry of checks on Sardinian roads during the week of August 15th. Between Cagliari, Sassari, Nuoro, and Oristano, 249 patrols were deployed, checking 1,197 vehicles and 1,852 people.
586 violations of the Highway Code were reported, of which 75 for failure to respect speed limits, 60 for failure to use seat belts , 38 for lack of insurance coverage, 25 for driving under the influence of alcohol and narcotics.
66 driving licenses were withdrawn , 33 vehicles were seized, 19 were administratively detained, a total of 1,308 points were deducted, and 22 people were reported.
Among the interventions, one carried out by the Cagliari Highway Police patrol on the night of August 11th, which ensured that an elderly man, clearly confused, was able to avoid a collision with a steep incline while driving along the Asse Mediano . Once stopped, the elderly driver, clearly in distress, was placed in the care of family members who arrived on the scene after the usual checks.
In Oristano, a 26-year-old man stopped on the morning of August 15th for speeding was found to have escaped house arrest ordered by the Cagliari Court for stalking and was subsequently arrested.
