Healthcare workers at the Oristano Local Health Authority are on strike. The decision was announced today by the Nursing Up Sardegna union, which requested the Prefect's intervention to initiate a cooling-off procedure and prevent a strike.
At the heart of the protest is the management of the regional fund allocated to disadvantaged areas, amounting to €544,972. According to the union, the company management signed a decentralized agreement on June 24th with only the medical management , without involving the healthcare sector, as required by current regulations and the regional law itself.
The agreement allocates €463,226 to medical management, approximately 85% of the resources. The healthcare sector—which includes nurses, midwives, and other professionals—would be left with €81,745, equal to just over 15% of the fund. Only after the agreement was signed with the doctors, Nursing Up explains, did the company begin discussions with the sector's trade unions to discuss the use of the remaining amount.
The union calls the decision "prejudicial to non-medical healthcare workers" and "disrespectful of the role of nurses and midwives, who form the backbone of the healthcare system and face similar challenges to doctors." It also criticizes the failure to respect the union's right to negotiate the management of financial resources.
