It was a voluntary gesture. The autopsy on the body of Erik Masala, 26 years old, found dead in a cell in the Bancali prison, ruled out that the cause of death could be linked to episodes of violence suffered inside the prison.

The discovery of the death of the young man from Cagliari dates back to September 18th. The news of the tragedy was made known by the prisoners' guarantor, Irene Testa, who immediately spoke of suicide to denounce "the failure of the judicial and penitentiary system".

A version that did not convince the family of the young prisoner: they had spoken of bruises on his body. For them, something had happened behind bars that needed to be clarified. They turned to the lawyer Riccardo Floris, who defended Masala, to ask for investigations and to open an investigation to clarify. The prosecutor of the Sassari Prosecutor's Office ordered the examinations on the body, which were carried out this morning.

In the afternoon, the specialists' verdict: in Bancali, it was the response, a personal drama had taken place.

Masala's body has been returned to his family and the funeral could take place tomorrow in Cagliari.
