No extradition for Carles Puigdemont.

The Sassari Court of Appeal accepted the request of the Attorney General Gabriella Pintus and the defense attorney Agostinangelo Marras.

The college chaired by Salvatore Marinato and composed of Pilina Azzena and Maria Teresa Lupinu has suspended the extradition proceedings against the former Catalan president.

For the Sassari judges, it is necessary to await the definition of the pending proceedings on Puigdemont relating to immunity and the preliminary question being examined by the European Court of Justice.

"I'm really happy". These are the only words pronounced by Puigdemont at the exit of the Court of Appeal of Sassari, caught between the embraces of his party comrades and the ovation of the Sardinian, Corsican and Basque separatists.

"We believe we have obtained an absolutely positive result, the Court has accepted the conclusions formulated by the pg and myself", commented the lawyer Agostinangelo Marras instead.

The MEP was arrested a few days ago in Alghero, as soon as he arrived at the airport, and released after spending a night in the Bancali prison.

He has lived in exile in Waterloo for years, an arrest warrant issued by Madrid hangs on him for the referendum on the independence of Catalonia in 2017.
