A chore turned tragic . Shortly after 11:00 this morning, Luigi Atzeni, 72, was installing waterproofing on the terrace of his home on Via Casteldoria, in Monserrato, when a fire broke out, causing him serious burns. He initially tried to extinguish the flames by spraying water with a hose, but the blaze continued to grow, engulfing a wooden shed on the terrace.

Atzeni therefore found himself trapped and was saved by the providential intervention of the firefighters, who recovered him with the ladder basket .

Immediately treated by 118 emergency responders with an anti-burn ointment, he was then transported by ambulance to Brotzu hospital, where he was assigned a red code.

Firefighters managed to extinguish the fire before it engulfed the rest of the house and spread to adjacent buildings. The house therefore suffered no structural damage.
