A new forensic examination will be carried out on the body of Stefano Dal Corso , the 42-year-old Roman who died in his cell in the Massama prison in Oristano on 12 October 2022.

The PD deputies Debora Serracchiani and Silvio Lai made this known, reporting the response of the Minister of Justice Carlo Nordio to the question presented on the matter by the Dem group, with Serracchiani herself the first signatory.

The case was dismissed as suicide by the investigating judge of Oristano without carrying out an autopsy, but Dal Corso's sister had asked for it to be reopened, also on the basis of the testimony of an anonymous person who said he was in possession of videos that would prove the killing by Dal Corso. The theory is that the prisoner was beaten to death after witnessing sexual intercourse in prison . Dal Corso's sentence was about to end, he had arrived from Rebibbia a few days ago in the Oristano prison to attend the hearing of a trial in which he was involved.

The autopsy was carried out last January 12th , no obvious signs of beatings were found but the advanced state of decomposition of the body did not allow for a complete analysis .

Here is the new assignment to a panel of experts made up of five experts in the sector : «Very positive news, we hope that at this point we will arrive at a definitive truth about the death of Stafano Dal Corso. Because if third-party responsibilities were to emerge it would represent an incredibly serious vulnerability to the system for managing the execution of sentences by the State."

The parliamentary question also shined a light on the security systems of the Oristano prison : «From the minister's response – explains Lai – it emerges that since 2017 no maintenance has been carried out on the video surveillance system in the Oristano prison. And again in 2017, only 45 cameras out of 295 were functioning. No functioning cameras are present in the cells, just as the one from which you can glimpse the cell where Dal Corso died is also malfunctioning ."

For this reason, the two dem deputies, defining the circumstance as "very serious", ask to immediately carry out "maintenance of the video surveillance system and the restoration of all non-functioning cameras, for the safety of those who work in the prison and of the inmates".
