With the urban regeneration project in the Villaggio Satellite and Serra Li Pozzi neighborhoods , the Municipality of Porto Torres took part in the conference “Cities in the Future 2030–2050” organized in Rome, from 7 to 9 October, by the National Association of Building Contractors (Ance).
A major international event that brought together experts, institutions, and governments to discuss the challenges facing cities in the coming decades, including climate adaptation, water management, urban transformation, sustainable mobility, and the housing emergency.
The conference, which opened in the Chamber of Deputies, where major European and Italian institutions participated, continued at the MAXXI – National Museum of 21st Century Arts, where a veritable urban village was set up, featuring debates, exhibitions, installations, and thematic meetings dedicated to innovation and quality of living.
The event also included "Città in Scena," a widespread urban regeneration festival promoted by Mecenate 90 and ANCE, which brought together and compared projects, strategies, and visions from various Italian municipalities. The goal: to highlight best practices in urban regeneration, promote "Made in Italy" skills and technologies, and foster new synergies between public bodies, professionals, and businesses.
Among the projects selected for presentation is the Turritano project, which aims to redevelop public spaces in the Villaggio Satellite and Serra li Pozzi neighborhoods, creating meeting places, sports venues, and social gatherings, and revitalizing the urban fabric.
The redevelopment project was presented by architect-planner Lia Ara, in the presence of Public Works Councilor Gavina Muzzetto, who represented the city administration. The project envisions connecting the two areas via a cycle/pedestrian path that, passing through the sports center and integrating with the existing network, will form a sustainable mobility loop for the city.
At Villaggio Satellite, the old pitch will become a multipurpose space with areas for sports, fitness, relaxation, and street sports; at Serra li Pozzi, the current standard area will be transformed into a neighborhood square dedicated to meeting, playing, and recreation. "This is an important recognition for Porto Torres," commented Councilor Muzzetto, "which, through its urban regeneration and innovation initiatives, is part of the broader national dialogue on the cities of the future."
