The vulgar summer begins again in the Sinis. Since yesterday, in the Sale 'e Porcus salt pan, in the San Vero Milis area, there have been tracks not only from the animals that inhabit the wetland, but also from the tires of an off-road vehicle. The incident was reported by a reader of L'Unione Sarda, who denounces the behavior of some visitors, calling them " the tourists we never want to see in Sardinia ."
The Sale 'e Porcus pond is an area of high environmental value, included in the Special Area of Conservation (SAC) , recognized at European level for the protection of natural habitats and the plant and animal species that live there. The area is also home to numerous bird species, including greater flamingos, which use these habitats for rest and nesting.
The reader's comment was harsh: "There are those who are willing to spend tens of euros on umbrellas and loungers in their tourist destinations, but when they arrive in Sardinia, they think they can do whatever they want. Here, you're not the master, you're the guest. Whoever drove an off-road vehicle into the Sale 'e Porcus salt pan, an area where pink flamingos nest, has shown a total lack of respect for the land and the environment ." All this, perhaps, for "a couple of likes." The incident has reportedly been reported to the relevant authorities. "I hope that the necessary investigations will be carried out and that any fines will serve to make it clear that Sardinia's natural heritage cannot be treated like a playground ," the reader concludes.
