Alberto Picci, the man who in 2022 hit his parents in Santa Maria Coghinas with a harpoon and a butterfly knife, has been sent to trial for voluntary manslaughter.

Yesterday in court in Sassari the decision of the preliminary hearing judge Giuseppe Grotteria at the end of the discussion by the defense lawyer Tania Decortes. The 49-year-old from Cagliari has already been sentenced, in 2023, to 12 years of prison plus three years of Rems for attempted multi-aggravated murder. A sentence pronounced with the abbreviated procedure and also confirmed on appeal.

The man's attack two years ago caused very serious injuries to his parents, in particular his father Giuseppe who lost his life in January 2023 at the end of 8 months of suffering. The deputy prosecutor Angelo Beccu, a few days after the death, had asked for an expert opinion to establish the possible correlation between the 68-year-old's disappearance and his son's gesture. Then came the request for indictment for voluntary manslaughter from the prosecutor's office which yesterday received the green light from the judge for the preliminary hearings. The first hearing of the trial will be held in June this year.
