There would not be enough evidence to support the charge of voluntary manslaughter in court. And so the Oristano prosecutor's office will request the dismissal of the investigation against Antonino Demelas, the 71-year-old ex-partner believed by the investigators to be responsible for the end of Marina Castangia, the hairdresser from Cabras whose traces were lost in May two years ago.
The failure to find the body of the sixty-year-old is an element that weighs on the prosecution case, even if the final word will be up to the investigating judge. Meanwhile, Demelas is in prison for sexual abuse of a minor, the trial will begin in December.
The story began in May 2021 when the children of the former hairdresser filed a complaint regarding the disappearance of their mother. Initially we thought it was one of the woman's usual departures, but then the silence was starting to become too prolonged and suspicious. The investigations began, in June the turning point was with the search of the house in Mogorella , where Marina lived with her partner Demelas (assisted by the lawyer Monica Masia). And the opening of a case for voluntary homicide. The carabinieri searched the home of the cook (who in the meantime had carried out a series of jobs in the house, whitewashing the bedroom and disposing of the old furniture to arrange the new ones), and other properties of his, relatives and neighbors were heard but of the woman no sign. A few months later another important chapter opens: the man is arrested for sexual abuse of a minor and the investigators' hypothesis is that the two crimes are connected. Marina may have discovered the man's advances on a little girl. And this may have caused tension to explode between the couple until the tragic ending.
Demelas is in prison for the abuse, while for the murder he is facing dismissal.
