A plaque of thanks to the launeddas maestro Luigi Lai, 93 years old in July , for a life dedicated to the launeddas and to the promotion of an instrument that was at risk of extinction. The journalist Giancarlo Bulla (responsible for the Muravera senior citizens' council) delivered it in the “Piero Loddo” council chamber in Muravera, during the celebrations for the 51st edition of the Citrus Festival . During the meeting, moderated by Stefania Angius, the book on the life of Luigi Lai written by Gabriele Congiu was presented (who told how the idea for the book was born).
The maestro, in excellent form, answered questions and played the launeddas, dedicating, among other things, a requiem to Pope Francis. "Hang up the launeddas? I have no intention of doing so," he said amid applause from the audience.
Among the most emotional moments of his life are a concert in Japan (he has toured all five continents over and over again) and the honorary degree he received two years ago from the Alma Mater University of Bologna. Luigi Lai, from San Vito, is the greatest living interpreter of launeddas music.
