Sardinia is the Italian region where there was a higher incidence of road mortality: in 2023 there were 7 deaths per 100 thousand inhabitants. In absolute terms: 110 victims (there were 100 the year before, 91 in 2021 and 95 in 2020).

This is what emerges from the report on data released by Aci and Istat, related to the population. The Italian average is 5.15 deaths per 100 thousand inhabitants.

Mortality is also very high in Trentino Alto Adige (6.56), Veneto (6.36) and Emilia-Romagna (6.26), while the regions with the fewest deaths in relation to the population are Campania (3.93), Lombardy (3.76) and Liguria (3.64).

On the Island there has also been a significant increase in accidents in absolute terms (even without fatal outcome): there were 2,479 in 2020 (but it was the year of Covid and lockdown), 3,198 in 2021, 3,313 in 2022 and 3,391 last year.
