“Monte Nuovo”: the shadow of the Secret Services behind the leak
Under the scrutiny of investigators, the relationships between some information and security agencies with one of the people who allegedly participated in the "snacks" with the arrested people
New developments in the “Monte Nuovo” investigation. In fact, there would be the shadow of the secret services behind the leak of information which, three years ago, would have revealed the investigation by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate and the Carabinieri's ROS into the alleged links between Barbagia crime and white collar politics.
One of the people who participated in the "snacks" with some of the 31 arrested, according to the hypothesis of the DDA investigators, would have had very close relationships with members of some of the information and security agencies. Suspicions about a "mole" The first suspicions of the Anti-Mafia had emerged by listening to the wiretaps. On 9 September 2020, at 9.44am, the anesthetist Tomaso Cocco was heard talking to a colleague about a lunch that took place on August 15th, in which they both participated and which would have been monitored by the police: Doctor: «By the way, in mid-August we were all under..." Cocco: "Everyone?" Doctor: «Underneath!» Cocco: «Really?» Doctor: «Yes!» Cocco: «But did they tell you?» Doctor: «Yes yes!» Cocco: «And how did they manage to...» Doctor: «Eh, from afar... an executive...» Cocco: «Oh well, we were with characters...» Doctor: «Okay, I...» Cocco : «...about politics...» Doctor: «...(short pause) we have nothing to hide...»
Already about ten days earlier, Cocco had been overheard talking to another friend about snacks. «You think, oh!... if we had had the DDA behind us... all the photos they would have taken of us (incomprehensible)...». And then: «Oh? even the ROS by snacking...". Thanks to the interceptions, the carabinieri understood that something was not right, given that, in fact, a "remote" observation service had been set up on August 15th. Not only. The ones investigating the organization - as was later understood after the blitz of the 31 precautionary orders - were the DDA and the Special Operational Group who now want to discover the mole. The shadow of the Services But by unraveling the wiretaps, the investigators reconstructed the connections between Cocco's doctor friend and members of the Police Force and the Security Services.
This is demonstrated by some interceptions from February and June 2020. On 29 February three years ago, at 9.52 am, the same doctor who months later would report on the checks at the mid-August lunch was talking to Cocco. Doctor: «...but come to Cossoine tomorrow...» Cocco: «What is there in Cossoine?» Doctor: «A story... there's a snack with these people who are with the Colonels.. Generals... if you're interested...» Cocco: «Colonels??» Doctor: «eh...» Cocco: «And why precisely in Cossoine?» Doctor: «Why are they doing it there... Sismi colonels eh!» Cocco: «No, no... how?» Doctor: «From the Sismi...» Cocco: «No, no!» (laughs) Doctor: «We already need them... come on, bye: let's talk about it verbally...». The anesthetist Tomaso Cocco, who ended up in prison because he was suspected of being a point of connection between Barbagia and white-collar crime, did not participate in the "snacks" reported by his doctor friend with the alleged exponents of the Secret Services, but the investigators' suspicion is that news about the investigation filtered from there and then reached the suspects.
Today the interrogations of the 31 recipients of precautionary measures in prison and under house arrest will end, against whom the DDA accuses - in various capacities - crimes ranging from mafia association to secret association, but also drug trafficking, embezzlement, abuse of office , corruption and having helped Graziano Mesina in his hiding.
