The damage is still being assessed after the inferno that last week engulfed two homes in less than 48 hours: a house on Via Cabras on the night between August 14th and 15th, and a terrace on Via Casteldoria on the morning of the 16th.

It was in the latter that owner Luigi Atzeni, 72, was seriously burned while trying to extinguish the flames. Firefighters rescued him, and he is currently in intensive care at the Santissima Annunziata Hospital in Sassari, suffering from second- and third-degree burns covering 53% of his body. In recent days, Atzeni has undergone dialysis, transfusions, and skin grafts, and the family is seeing positive signs: "Gigi's condition shows improvement in his cardiovascular and respiratory systems. However, he remains in a coma, sedated, intubated, and ventilated," his children Roberta and Riccardo report.

To help the family restore the building , which was heavily damaged by the fire, a fundraiser was opened on the GoFundMe portal, which raised over 10 thousand euros.

"Thanks to your contribution, we've been able to begin the initial work on the house: the terrace has been cleaned up, the rubble has been removed, and now we can begin re-lining the roof, a crucial step towards making the home habitable again," Gigi Atzeni's children wrote to update donors.

"The process remains very difficult and delicate, but any progress is only possible thanks to your support. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the support and solidarity you continue to show."
