Weapons, ammunition, night-hunting flashlights, and twenty kilos of wild boar meat in the freezer. The Sinnai forestry station completed an anti-poaching operation in Salmagi, in the Quartu countryside, between yesterday evening and this morning.

A man was caught armed with a loaded rifle while walking towards a poaching post set up with almond bait, known in Sardinian as "pappadroxia" (feeding trough), a typical technique used to attract wild boar in the hilly areas of Cagliari.

The man was reported at large for hunting during a closed season and illegal possession of a firearm (his permit was expired). A subsequent search of a home belonging to the suspect's family, located near the illegal hunting area, yielded six rifles, a non-compliant blank-shooting pistol, ammunition, many of which were loaded with buckshot, and two night-hunting torches.

Approximately twenty kilos of wild boar meat were also found in the home's freezer, divided into a dozen packages, presumably from previous poaching incidents.
