Mogorella, sexual abuse of a child: 30-year sentence requested
Antonino Demelas, a 72-year-old former cook, is said to have abused a little girl of less than ten years old for a long time: already involved in the investigation into the disappearance of his partner, he is serving a sentence for robberyThirty years is the sentence requested by prosecutors Armando Mammone and Andrea Chelo for Antonino Demelas, the former cook from Mogorella accused of sexual abuse on a little girl who at the time was not even ten years old.
The 72-year-old will await sentencing in Uta prison, where he is serving a sentence for robbery . The investigation into the murder of his partner Marina Castangia, the hairdresser from Cabras who vanished into thin air in May three years ago, is also still open.
The hearing opened with the last three defense witnesses who added nothing to the picture that has emerged so far: Demelas' son said he had not had contact with his father for some time; his sister availed herself of the right to remain silent while a friend who had been a guest at the former cook's house called him "a good person". An opinion that strongly contrasts with the elements that emerged during the investigation by the Carabinieri of Oristano, "overwhelming evidence - it was repeated by the prosecutors and the civil party lawyer Davide Piasotti - that removes any doubt about what happened". There is the confirmation of the DNA test on the biological traces found in the places where, according to environmental wiretaps, the 72-year-old was secluded with the child. And then the victim's story and an unequivocal gynecological report.
The prosecutors asked for the maximum penalty for such a crime (with a whole series of aggravating circumstances). The prosecutor Mammone also dwelt on the traumas and the enormous damage that the child will carry with her for the rest of her life; the civil party associated itself with the requests of the prosecution while the defense with the lawyer Libero Pusceddu attempted a last resort by asking for an expert opinion to prove Demelas' inability to have sexual relations.
The panel (president Serena Corrias, alongside Cristiana Argiolas and Gabriele Bordiga) rejected the request. The ruling is expected on September 30.
