«For Sardinia and Sicily, but also for the whole of Italy, the sea has represented and still represents one of the fabrics on which the civilization of these peoples was built: today the sea resource constitutes an important contribution to the Italian GDP. We are between the second and third place in Europe for cruise and tourism activity, handling of goods and passengers». This was stated by Nello Musumeci, Minister for Marine Policies , today in Cagliari for Ideario 22, the cultural festival of the City of Cagliari . « The trouble - he highlighted - is that all the subjects who intervene directly or indirectly on the sea have never found a point of connection. The goal of President Meloni and the entire government is to set up a discussion table , an inter-ministerial committee already set up so that we can meet with representatives of all departments - fishing, shipbuilding, cruises, marine biology, infrastructures - so that the weak links in the supply chain can be highlighted, consolidate them and feed the strong ones which today allow a very significant contribution to the wealth of our country».

For Musumeci, having introduced the principle of insularity in the Constitution is a great success: "Finally we managed to get the Italian Parliament to say that living on an island is beautiful but also expensive ". However, he added, "in order to be able to reduce the disadvantages of life on an island , infrastructure, tax exemptions, incentives are needed: in the government objectives, already envisaged in the budget maneuver, we have already indicated a series of stages on which we will also build this policy to obey the constitutional provisions and so that living on an island is also convenient, not just beautiful».
